Another month, another set of books publishing that I am excited to read! And the TBR list gets longer and longer... Here are the books coming out in February 2022 that I'm most excited for. Although I have advanced copies of some of them, I haven't read any of them yet - but hopefully will be reading a lot of them next month!
Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead by Elle Cosimano (2/1/22) - Like so many others, I found last year's Finlay Donovan Is Killing It to be such a fun book, a mix of mom com and mystery/thriller. In the sequel, Finlay apparently finds out that someone wants her ex-husband dead, and tries to figure out who and how to prevent it.
In the Serpent’s Wake by Rachel Hartman (2/1/22) - I loved Rachel Hartman's YA fantasy books, the duology of Seraphina and Shadow Scale, and then the separate but related Tess of the Road - all set in a medieval-ish world with dragons that can shapeshift into humans. In fact, I included this series on my list several years ago of my favorite young adult fantasy series. The only issue is that it has been almost 4 years since Tess of the Road, so even though I adored it, it may take a little while for my memory of it to come back. If you haven't read this series and you like fantasy, I recommend going back to the beginning and starting with Seraphina.
Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkinson (2/1/22) - This debut novel is getting raves from early readers, and was a January selection for Book of the Month Club so is already in a lot of hands. Sounds like it is a multigenerational family drama, shifting from California in the present and the Caribbean in the 1960s. I do not have any spoilers, so pure speculation on my part, but this sounds to me like one that could be a celebrity book club pick too - or at least a good choice for a regular book club.
Catch Her When She Falls by Allison Bucola (2/1/22) - This debut thriller has an intriguing sounding premise - ten years before the book starts, main character Micah was a senior in high school when her best friend was murdered, and Micah's then-boyfriend was convicted. But now ten years later, the case rears up again and Micah begins to wonder if that was what really happened.
Beautiful Little Fools by Jillian Cantor (2/1/22) - This novel is a retelling of The Great Gatsby from the female characters' perspectives. I just re-read The Great Gatsby a few months ago while my daughter was reading it for AP Literature, plus I love feminist retellings, so I am excited to check this one out!
With Love From London by Sarah Jio (2/8/22) - I am a longtime fan of Sarah Jio, and have read 8 of her previous 9 books - just one to go and I'll be all caught up! But first, I will of course have to read her latest book. Per the publisher, in this one, "[a] librarian inherits a bookshop from her estranged mother, leading her halfway across the world on a journey of self-discovery that transcends time and honors the unbreakable bonds of love and family." This sounds like the type of book I would jump to read even if I had never heard of the author, so combine that with an author I love, and I can't wait!
Love & Saffron by Kim Fay (2/8/22) - This Indie Next pick is an epistolary novel set in the 1960s, told entirely in the form of letters between a 27 year old newbie food writer and a 59 year old food critic she begins a correspondence and friendship with. A few trusted reader friends read an early copy of this one and loved it, and since I always love unconventional formats in books, I can't wait to give it a try myself.
One Night on the Island by Josie Silver (2/15/22) - I loved Josie Silver's two previous books, One Day in December and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird. Her latest sounds like a perfect set up for a rom com - two people show up to a remote island for some solitude, only to find out that by mistake, they've both been booked in the same cabin for the same dates - and the next ferry out doesn't come for a week.
House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas (2/15/22) - I finally got around to reading the first book in Sarah J. Maas's Crescent City series this month, so I'm caught up and ready for the second book, though I hope it has more of the epic-ness of the back half of the first book and less of the incessant world-building. There are no early copies of this out there so no one knows too much about what it is about, other than the brief publisher description which indicates that it continues Bryce and Hunt's story, as they have to decide whether to help the rebels against the Asteri. But really, if you are a fan of the first book, do you really care what it is about, or will you be reading it regardless?
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley (2/22/22) - I really enjoyed Lucy Foley's book The Guest List, and looking forward to reading her latest thriller as well. According to the publisher, it's about a woman who shows up uninvited to stay at her half-brother's apartment in Paris, only to discover that he is missing.
Are any of these on your to-read list? Any other books publishing in February 2022 that you're excited for?
